A Month of MARTA & Heartache

I've managed to make it a month without a vehicle! Atlanta's public transit gets a lot of flak for not being as good as other major cities' transit like Chicago, Boston or NYC - with no thanks to Atlanta's city government which is trying to thwart efforts to make it better1 - but I think my hack of 'find an apartment near a MARTA station and deal with the rent' helps make the most of it. The me of 2026 is thanking the me of 2025 for being so smrt. Nonetheless, coming from the sticks 30 minutes outside of Greensboro, NC, I can appreciate what it is we do get - especially if it comes with the loss of the steep Atlanta car insurance bill.

I'm not built for the cold in any capacity, but when it's been dry enough I've gotten out some - either with friends, movie screenings, or hopping around the city. It's still unreal seeing sights & community I wouldn't have conceived of ten years ago after graduating high school. It has also given way to some nice nighttime pictures.

I bit harder into the 'new year new me' stuff than I normally do, and though both a cold & The Cold hampered my energy levels I'm feeling personally satisfied, regardless of my satisfaction elsewhere. I started the year doomscrolling Minneapolis, which turned into doomscrolling Venezuela, which turned back into doomscrolling Minneapolis with extra dread. I've no faith in what things will look like 12 months from now, I'm just trying to make good use of my time with myself and the people around me while there's still time. I'm doubling-up on my bills to stay ahead. There's no faith anymore in the long-term other than trying to strengthen my posture as best I can. My heart's bleeding for our future, and for the futures already shattered by the MAGA bastards.

Postscript: I wrote this on 1/26 and am putting this up on 1/30 and my disgust over the last week is unspeakable..
